The severity of the symptoms can vary a lot between patients with Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency. Some patients will show little symptoms while others will be affected more severely.
Some effects are not caused by the Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency in itself, but are the consequence of the treatments, like iron overload and the higher infection risk after spleen removal.
